$2.8 Billion Tuggerah Precinct Activation Announcement


Regional Development Australia Central Coast (RDACC) has applauded today’s $2.8 Billion joint announcement by the Scentre Group, Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation and Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council, to redevelop Westfield Tuggerah site and adjoining land into a major hub of employment, transport, leisure and education.

RDACC Director of Regional Development and CEO, John Mouland, said RDACC has been campaigning for a coordinated development approach of Tuggerah for some time, and fully supports any investment that will allow Tuggerah and its surrounding areas to realise their full potential.

As a critical stage of the Tuggerah Precinct Activation, todays announcement is a critical first step to a coordinated approach to land use and infrastructure planning designed to drive further investment, encourage residential growth around existing rail and bus interchanges, boost tourism and sporting events, and create local jobs.

“Together with Central Coast Council, RDACC has been a key proponent for the integration of Tuggerah Town Centre with the Westfield Shopping Complex and a number of other key development sites in Tuggerah, primarily for the far-reaching benefits this activation will have for the entire Central Coast,” said Mr Mouland.

“With around 10,000 jobs created during construction of the project and more than 2,500 permanent local positions available as a result, this initial stage of Tuggerah Precinct activation is a big win for the people of the Central Coast.”

Mr Mouland explains due to Tuggerah’s strategic location and proximity to major transport hubs and business centres, it makes sense to activate this area as a catalyst for growth and development throughout the region.

“Identified in the Central Coast Regional Plan as the beginning of the Northern Growth Corridor, the Tuggerah Regional Centre sits as a midpoint of the Central Coast, with direct access to the upgraded M1, main regional arterial roads, major rail and bus interchanges, successful business parks and a prominent retail centre,” said Mr Mouland.

“Because of this, over the past five years numerous public and private organisations have proposed major development initiatives focused around this area.

“Significant population growth also continues to fuel demand for additional local jobs, further releases of recreation, retail, commercial and industrial lands, and accessible, coordinated and well-designed community infrastructure, as well as development of a dedicated town centre.”

Mr Mouland says successful activation of this crucial growth centre calls for a planned, strategic and collaborative approach.

“To deliver these development projects holistically, and to fully leverage this significant investment from both the public and private sectors, it is essential these transformational development opportunities are integrated, connected and realised as part of a comprehensive Precinct Structure Plan, designed to create and deliver the full potential of this important regional centre,” added Mr Mouland.

“RDACC looks forward to working together with all key stakeholders and project partners to further develop and activate the pivotal Tuggerah Precinct as a catalyst for growth, employment and opportunity for our entire region.”
