RDA Central Coast Welcomes High-Speed Rail Geotechnical Investigations

06-11-24

The Committees of Regional Development Australia Central Coast (RDA Central Coast) and Regional Development Australia Hunter (RDA Hunter) have collaborated over many years to advocate for high-speed rail on behalf of our two regions.

RDACC Acting Chair, Anna Cruckshank, says The RDA Central Coast Committee has welcomed initial geotechnical investigations that have commenced on the Central Coast to determine the optimum route alignment for a proposed high-speed rail link to connect our region to Sydney in just 30 minutes.

“The Committee has offered its assistance and support to the High-Speed Rail Authority in the business case being developed for the first stage of this transformational project, that will connect the two largest cities in New South Wales to Sydney”.

“The Hunter and Central Coast regions are expected to grow by 22 per cent to nearly 1.2 million residents by the early 2040s and high-speed rail has the potential to reduce travel times for commuters and visitors to our regions, and to deliver new housing, trade, tourism and related regional economic development opportunities,” says Ms Cruckshank.

The RDA Central Coast Committee looks forward to the delivery of the business case for the Newcastle to Sydney stage that is expected to be delivered to the Government by the end of this year.
