Local not-for-profit (NFP) organisations are being given a helping hand to overcome any barriers to success, with the hugely successful 2018 Central Coast NFP Forum Series.

Following the inaugural event in February this year, a forum focusing on director’s roles and responsibilities scheduled for Tuesday 8 May has already received an overwhelming response.

Forum Series Coordinator and Fortunity Business Development Manager, Yvette Wright, said she has been overwhelmed with the response from the local NFP community.

“We had fantastic feedback to our inaugural governance forum held in February this year and we already have close to 100 NFP representatives registered to attend Tuesday night’s event,” said Ms Wright.

“There is obviously a need for this type of support across the not-for-profit sector and I’m proud to be a part of this initiative aimed to help these organisations in the vital role they play in our community.”

Regional Development Australia Central Coast Chief Executive Officer, John Mouland, said the series is designed to support the NFP sector on the Central Coast through seminars, educational workshops and support services.

“We recognise the wonderful work that is accomplished by the many charities and not-for-profit organisations on the Central Coast and we also recognise that it is not always easy keeping up-to-date with compliance requirements and best practice in managing finances, reporting requirements and governance,” said Mr. Mouland.

“The aim of this series is to address contemporary issues facing the sector and identify best practice solutions for boards, management and anyone in positions of responsibility to help these organisations overcome any barriers to their ongoing success.”

Tuesday night’s forum will feature keynote speaker and NFP Sector Leader, Phil Butler from the Australian Institute of Company Directors in Canberra.

Phil will share insights into ways directors can achieve their respective missions through understanding fundamental compliance and performance related roles and responsibilities.

Topics covered include:
• What is the job of the Board?
• What are the duties of Boards under the governance standards?
• What are the risks and consequences of falling short?

Future forums in the series focus on:
• Grants, Sponsorship and Fundraising (24 July)
• Financial Reporting and Auditing (18 September)
• Investment Strategy and Committee (20 November)
